Conferencing and Reporting

Conferencing

This takes place with each student twice a year. Parents, the student and the allocated staff member meet for 15 minutes to discuss the student’s achievement, attendance, power scores, goal setting and future progress. There will be a special emphasis on NCEA progress with seniors.

The staff member conferencing the student in Year 9, where possible, will be the same person conferencing him for his whole time at school. This will enable them to have a good depth of knowledge about the student. In preparation for the conferencing meeting the staff member has input from all of the student’s teachers along with material on achievement, attendance and attitude.

The student also completes a conferencing sheet where he assesses his own progress and at the meeting his goals for inside and outside of the classroom are developed. These are referred to in the second meeting.

Junior conferencing takes place at the start of Term 3 and at the end of Term 4. Senior conferencing takes place at the end of Term 1 and the end of Term 3. This is on an afternoon usually from 1pm until 4pm and parents are sent an appointment time.

Reporting

Junior reports are sent out twice a year. Both are full reports with comments from each teacher along with current achievement levels. The first is sent out at the end of Term 2 in preparation for conferencing in Term 3 and the second towards the end of Term 4 in preparation for that conferencing.

Senior reports are sent out twice a year. The first time in the middle of Term 2 records the results from the School Examinations from the start of that Term. The final report is sent at the end of Term 3 before conferencing. This is a full report with comments from each teacher along with current Internal Assessment grades and results from the School Examinations at the start of Term 3.

All students receive a POWER Score every two weeks in each subject. This is available to be viewed on the Parent Portal. When reports are sent out a copy of the POWER Scores are included. If a student receives an average of 4.25 out of 5 a letter will be sent home acknowledging this fine performance. If a student’s average is under 3.00 a letter registering concern will be sent.

A student’s teacher may contact home at any stage during the year if there are concerns in the classroom.
