Scholarships

There are  externally funded university scholarships available for Timaru Boys’ High School students. Follow the links to find out more. 

Admiral Sir Gordon Tait University Scholarship

Established in 2008 in memory of Admiral Sir Gordon Tait (TBHS 1935 to 1947), this scholarship is awarded to one student from Timaru Boys' High School and has a maximum tenure of three years at the University of Canterbury. It is awarded for all-round excellence and financial need taking into consideration:  academic achievement; leadership potential; sport, cultural and community activities; and financial need. The value of the scholarship is $4,500 for each of three years ($13,500).  Applications online at https://tinyurl.com/UC-Scholarships. (This scholarship will not be offered for study in 2025)

Jim Wakefield Scholarship

This University of Canterbury scholarship has a value of $5,000 per year ($15,000 over three years). Selection is on the basis of academic achievement, personal qualities, financial circumstances and the candidate must have spent 3 or more years at Timaru Boys' High School. Applications online at https://tinyurl.com/UC-Scholarships

Mark Parker Cricket Scholarship

One term at Winchester College, England. 

St Andrews Youth Scholarship

The Aoraki Foundation manages the annual St Andrews Youth scholarship of up to $3,000 for academic, sporting or cultural excellence.

Applicants need to be:
  • under 18yrs of age
  • born or reside in the St. Andrews / Mahikihi area.

Hubbard Churcher Scholarship

The Scholarship application closing date is: 5pm Friday 13th September

Schools nominate up to two students for this scholarship, the students nominated is required to complete the attached application form. Click here

These Scholarships are worth up to $2,5­­­00 per annum, for a maximum period of three years ­and are awarded to students who are financially and/or socially disadvantaged.

Mensa Scholarship

Open to all students preparing to undertake their first year of tertiary study.

Studio Pacific Architecture VUW Scholarship

Studio Pacific Architecture is supporting a first-year Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University Architecture and Design student with a Scholarship in 2025.

This scholarship has a value of $5,000 and aims to support a student undertaking their first year of study at the Wellington Faculty of Architecture and Design.

Waimate Agricultural Trust

The object of the trust is to assist students of any form of agriculture for the purpose of their education
by any polytechnic, university or other recognised formal training institution.

Grants are only available to applicants within a certain geographical area. Briefly this area extends
between the Waitaki River in the south to the Pareora River in the north. The western boundaries extend
to Lake Benmore and the Otaio Gorge. Applicants must have lived within the geographical area for a continual period of at least two years of
their lifetime.
