Outdoor Education

The Outdoor environment is a medium that allows young people to recreate, gain physical skills, gain an affinity and concern for the natural environment and develop in self -confidence and resilience. Our courses offer students a range of outdoor experiences where they will be challenged and rewarded with greater confidence and skills.

Outdoor Education at Timaru Boys’ High School allow students with an interest in the outdoors as a learning environment to gain skills and recognition via NZQA standards, to develop confidence, social and interpersonal relationships using the outdoors as a medium, provides an opportunity for a more hands-on based subject for less academic students and a learning pathway for those interested in the service and outdoor industry in NZ.

In the junior school students have an introduction to outdoor education in Year 9 and can then choose it as one of their Year 10 option subjects for a half-year.
