Dramatic Arts education is an important means of stimulating creativity in problem solving. It can challenge students' perceptions about their world and about themselves. Dramatic exploration can provide students with an outlet for emotions, thoughts, and dreams that they might not otherwise have means to express. This can happen in a safe atmosphere, where actions and consequences can be examined, discussed, and in a very real sense experienced.
At Timaru Boys' High School, Drama is a compulsory subject at Year 9, and offered as an option from Year 10 to Year 13. It is delivered by a dedicated drama specialist who is passionate about the subject. Regardless of year level, the TBHS Drama Department encourages students to develop their creativity, learn about their own identity, and develop self-awareness, self-confidence, and a sense of well-being.
TBHS is proud to offer not only the performance, directing, and playwriting side of Drama, but the technological aspects as well. In our Drama Tech classes, students will work alongside the various school productions by building sets, rigging and operating lights, designing and constructing costumes, and creating stage props (just to name a few).
Thinking of studying the Dramatic Arts at Boys' High? Remember the 'Golden Rule':
You are number 3. The work you are doing is number 2. Everyone else is number 1.
We have only one request in this program: BE EXCELLENT! That means to yourself, to others, and in everything you do. Be willing to try new things, knowing that Drama and Drama Technology can be done by anyone in a supporting and trusting environment.
