There was much anxiety through 2025 with the prospect that a very restrictive enrolment zone was to be forced on Timaru Boys’ (and Timaru Girls’). There was outrage and concern thoughout the school and wider South Canterbury community. Over 1000 submissions were made to the Ministry of Education challenging the logic and need to limit enrolments.
Yes, TBHS has had a surge in enrolments over the past five years but the School was able to accommodate the growing numbers. As at 1 July 2025 the School roll stood at 793 the school’s highest ever number of students.
Good sense has prevailed and in August the Ministry of Education advised that the proposed enrolment zone would not proceed. The strong community voice was heard. Well done to many parents, old boys and school supporters who made submissions. All enrolments welcome!
