Year 10 students participated in the Mana Tangata traditional Maori Games afternoon in beautiful sunny conditions at the School Park.

The day consisted of a round robin competition in Te Uru a traditional Maori game where players have to pass the ball within their team and score points by getting the ball to their teammates who are moving on and off cones in the attacking end. The game promotes teamwork, passing, communication and coordination.

All games were played in very good spirits with sportsmanship and inclusivity being the main focus. Each class played against every other Mana class with a total of five games.

10GI won the event going through unbeaten, they were followed by 10MF and then for the first time three classes were tied for 3rd equal, 10RY, 10WN and 10MJ, 10AD had some close games and came in 6th place.

At the conclusion of the Te Uru tournament every class then competed in the Clash of the Classes Haka competition. Each class performed the haka and the top three were then chosen for the final.

10MF, 10GI and 10RY were chosen for the final and each performed simultaneously. After much deliberation the judges came together and decided on the final placings and the top leader who received the Hautūtanga trophy for the best leader.

Tai Reihana received the Hautūtanga for being the top leader from all 6 classes.

10RY won the haka competition for their exceptional timing and also the passion that they showed.

Overall what a great day for Mana Tangata, a huge thank you to Liam, Luke, Mac, Jake, Luc and Harry for their refereeing for judging the haka. It was great to be part of a special day!
