Out in the Community

Our Year 10 Environmental Studies boys have been working alongside students from Grantlea Downs School to regenerate an area of the Taitarakihi Creek at the back of their school grounds.

Taitarakihi Creek is a local waterway that runs through the Timaru area, providing an important natural habitat and helping to support native plants, insects, birds and other wildlife. Like many urban waterways, parts of the creek and its surrounding areas have been affected by weeds and loss of native vegetation.

As part of this ongoing project, students have been getting hands-on experience in weeding, preparing the ground and planting native species to help restore the area and improve the health of this local habitat.

It is fantastic to see students from both schools working together and making a positive contribution to an important part of our local environment.

A big thank you to everyone involved in helping make this project possible!
