Metro bus services in Timaru
Metro have been monitoring the number of passengers using the Temuka-Timaru service and we know that the bus is often quite full, especially in the morning.
We know that rangatahi rely on the service to get to school in Timaru. The bus can take up to 60 people - this includes standing and seated passengers, and the service is first-come, first-served. If demand exceeds capacity, there is the possibility that occasionally people may be unable to board the bus.
Looking ahead to the start of school next year, this could mean that parents and rangatahi need to monitor the situation and if required, make alternative arrangements to ensure that students arrive at school on time. We are monitoring the situation, but unfortunately, we don’t currently have sufficient funding to provide an additional bus service on this route.
