The school tennis team has been involved in three different tournaments in February.

First up was a trip to Dunedin to play the traditional Exchange against OBHS. We started with three doubles games and lost each of these which was a little discouraging, but rebounded to win four of the six singles to narrowly lose the tie 4-5. Singles winners were our number 1 (Ryan Watt), Number 3 (Tom Gearey) as well as our Year 9 boys GP van Heerden (5) and Murphy Porter (6).

Next up was the Aoraki Championships in Ashburton. The team of 8 played a lot of tennis throughout the day. Aoraki’s is played as teams of two with singles games and doubles if required. Our top team of Ryan Watt and Caleb Kelly made the final but finished second to Ashburton’s best. It was the same schools playing off for third. Tom Geary and Jacob Caird split the singles and there wasnt time for the doubles so we shared third place. Jonty Porter and GP along with Murphy and Tyler Rawcliffe had a number of good wins throughout the day.

Finally, the Senior boys travelled to the grass courts of Oamaru for the annual Waitaki Exchange. Ryan, Caleb, Tom and Jacob were way too strong for their opposition and Caleb was victorious in the 10 pin on the way home.
