As I write this from our dining table, 6 days into lockdown, I’m looking out the window at a lovely Aoraki winter’s day. I really hope we hear some good news from the Prime Minister’s press conference today, but whatever the case, I’m sure we can cope with what comes our way.
Exams postponed, tournaments cancelled, learning from home - life just got a whole lot more complicated for the students (not to mention the parents!). You will have seen emails and Facebook posts over the last few days with different information. I hope you don’t mind me repeating a couple of key points:
TBHS Examinations COVID Update
These will take place a week after students return to school (i.e. if we return on a Wednesday the exams will start on the following Wednesday, etc)
The focus now for senior students will be working on their internals (or learning for a new external if appropriate). They should check their school email and Google Classroom for details from their teacher as from Monday.
School Sport NZ, in conjunction with its sport partners, regretfully announce the cancellation of all sanctioned events on its calendar through to Monday 6th September 2021. This includes all events scheduled within the Winter Tournament Week window.
It is very disappointing to lose the Winter Tournament Week, especially with all our sports enjoying wonderful seasons. The sportsmanship and passion displayed by our boys this year have been outstanding. I’m confident the powers that be will find a way of making sure some important postponed games happen before the end of the term ( two that spring to mind are the Canterbury Secondary Schools 1st XI Hockey final where our outstanding 1st XI take on Christ’s College, and the historic Waitaki 1st XV Rugby game).
No doubt I will be emailing parents again very shortly, so I will sign off now. There's a lot to read in this month’s newsletter and these articles only represent a fraction of what actually goes on at school.
