Old Boy returns to School to Direct

Timaru Boys’ High School Old Boy Don McCully (1963 – 1966) has returned to his former High School to direct The Ocean Star with Year 13 students.

The Ocean Star, written by Michael Galvin debuted with the Auckland Theatre Company in 2006. The story follows the relationship of Brian with his two sons Jeremy and Edward as they navigate life, death and mental affliction.

Don is enthusiastic about returning to Boys’ High “it’s nice to be back - slightly strange at first - however Drama is in good hands at TBHS” he says. “It’s been wonderful for the boys’ to work with Don; he’s an amazing Director and the boys appreciate his connection to the school” says Drama teacher Morag Carter.

The performance is the culmination of 11 weeks of rehearsals in class time and work outside the classroom. There is a different cast performing on each night. The boys w ould love to see additional Boys’ High School family at either of their performances.
