ANTS (Advanced Naturally Talented Students) 2019

Our ANTS group had their first meeting last Thursday and heard from Ms Whytock about various competitions available and ways to keep themselves mentally fit.

Smiling Mind is a free app that can be used when our brains get too busy, to help create calm and relaxation. A number of boys already had mindfulness techniques that they use when preparing for exams.

Three boys reported on their Summer Learnings: George Mulder (whom we would like to welcome into the ANTS group) reported back on the Hands On Otago week that he was awarded as part of last year's Science Fair. Joshua Earnshaw reported back on his week away at the University of Canterbury Science Summer Camp and Bailey Lissington spoke about his time in Auckland at the Rotary Science and Technology Forum. Each boy was passionate about what they got to experience and enjoyed the hands on activities that they got to take part in.

We would like to congratulate Joshua Earnshaw for being accepted to take part in the Sir Peter Blake Young Environmental Leaders Forum 2019 which will be in Waikato and Rotorua and will focus on different environmental issues related to climate change, our oceans, freshwater and biodiversity. We look forward to his continued involvement in the TBHS Environmental Group and passion in this area.

The ANTS group was also pleased to welcome the new Year 9 ANTS students. They are Steven Latu, Kade Macmillan, Jack O'Neill and Steven Ramsay.
