Timaru Boys' High 1st XI advanced to the next round of the National Knockout Gillette Cup cricket finals with a hard fought two wicket win over Ashburton College at Mountainview.

Batting first, Ashburton posted 234-3 at the end of their 50 overs on the back of a strong top order performance. Balkrishna Uniyal with 2-56 was the most successful of the local bowlers.

In reply, the depth of Timaru's batting was again the key to reaching the target eight down with four overs to spare. Liam Andrews with 55 and Hugh Cameron 32, top scored for TBHS after a patient 27 at the top of the order from Caleb Donaldson. Alex Doyle continued his run of important contributions with 29 not out to steer his side home.

It looks like the next game will be against the strong St Bede's combination in Christchurch.
