Teschemaker Cup

Mr Jim Wakefield was awarded the Teschemaker Cup at assembly on 22 June for his philanthropy.

Mr Wakefield (TBHS 1947-51) had a successful career in the accounting profession, heading one of New Zealand’s major firms and later establishing his own business. One of his major interests was harness racing, and it was his service to this sport which saw him made a member of the New Zealand Order of Merit. But it was his philanthropy which prompted the Old Boys’ Executive to award him the Teschemaker Cup for 2015.

In 2001 Mr Wakefield established the Wakefield Scholarship, which each year generously finances a TBHS student for university study. Last year Mr Wakefield and his wife donated to the city of Christchurch their very valuable collection of about 140 paintings and other art works. They have also established a Trust to build a building adjacent to the Canterbury Museum to house this very generous gift. Jim Wakefield is a truly special Old Boy.
