TBHS had two teams competing in the Aoraki Junior Basketball Tournament on Wednesday.
The TBHS White team finished second in the A grade competition, losing the final 27 - 21 to Ashburton Blue. In round robin, they had wins over St Kevin's, Ashburton Red, Waitaki Boys' and Ashburton Blue.
The team started the tournament strongly with three impressive wins. The win over Ashburton Blue was a highlight as this eventual tournament winner is a very strong team. Lucas Mullings and Jai Holden made big plays down the stretch to achieve the win.
With games every 25 minutes and the hard fought win against Ashburton, the fourth game against Roncalli was the only loss in pool play.
The tiring team won their last round robin game against Waitaki 21-20 to make the final. It was a great team effort with great play from guards Aaron Kavanaugh, Kade Macmillan and Matt Gonzales. Matt King and Moss Peake completed the line-up and had strong games throughout the tournament.
The TBHS Blue team played in the B grade with good wins over Roncalli and Mountainview. The team lost to St Kevin's and eventual grade winners Mt Hutt College in their semi-final. A great effort from Ben McDonald, Om Patel, Noah Carnegie, Charles Batoon, Oliver Grant, Melakai Morse and Alex Marr.
