For many years, Timaru Boys' High School has been highly successful locally and nationally on the sports field. This record of excellence is a direct result of the school's encouragement of boys to participate in sport, and of the team spirit which is developed.
School teams and individuals regularly win tournaments and championships and in the last few years, some outstanding results have been achieved.
Many individuals have gained national honours in other sports and some from earlier years have won selection in New Zealand teams, the most famous being Jack Lovelock, Olympic Gold medallist and record holder over 1500m. Marc Ryan is our most recent Olympic medallist. Marc won his Bronze at the Beijing Olympics in the Cycling Team Pursuit. Isaac Ross (1998-2002) became our 15th All Black in 2009.
