FMG Young Farmer of the Year Final

During the June school holidays, Edward White and Hunter Illingworth represented TBHS at the FMG Junior Young Farmer of the Year Grand Final in Invercargill.

Over the two-day competition, the boys sat a Lincoln University exam, prepared and delivered a five-minute speech, completed seven task-based modules, and built a farmlet within two hours. Their farmlet construction included a post and rail fence, a three-wire fence (with two wires electric), two tape bungy gates, plumbing a water trough, identifying and planting trees, preparing flax plants, completing a soil analysis, and assembling drainage pipe.

Edward and Hunter performed extremely well, especially considering they were the youngest team in the field. They achieved some excellent scores across the competition and gained valuable skills and experience along the way.
