Friday 13th June was a busy day for Year 10 students with their Mana Tangata Life Skills Day
On Friday the 13th of June all Year 10 students participated in a Mana Tangata life skills rotation day. This day began with students completing the Te timatanga, this is "The Beginning", all students identified a negative attitude or behaviour in their lives of which they would like to make a positive change, after thinking of this students wrote it on a piece of paper, folded it into an origami shape and then burnt it on a brazier. This was a symbolic gesture signifying the commitment to that change.
After burning their origami shape students then cooked smores signifying the end of the formal process. Rotations then began in class groups where students learnt the fundamentals of budgeting, Maori games, cooking, vehicle maintenance and changing a tyre and telling their life story.
Students will complete a gratitude task in their PE classes next week where they are to hand write a personalised letter to someone they are thankful for in their lives.
Thank you to the boys for their positive attitude and willingness to get involved in what was a very successful day.
