South Island athletics

Held over the weekend of 5-6 April

A team of 9 athletes travelled to Nelson to compete in the South Island Track and Field Championships held over the weekend of 5-6 April.
Competing against the best in the South Island, the team managed to gain a number of podium finishes.

All our athletes performed to the very best of their abilities with a standout performance by Toby Winter who broke the Under 15 triple jump record with a leap of 13 metres. He also gained a third place finish in the 100m final with a personal best of 11.55 seconds.

Finn Tregurtha-Nairn also had a very successful weekend in winning his division for the 100m (12.97 sec), 200m (26.29 sec), 400m (60.54 sec) and long jump (4.48m).

Other athletes to perform well were Jack Scoon who finished third In the under 15, 3000m in 9.29 mins. He was also 8th in the 1500m with 4.33 mins.

Luke Thomas ran well in the under 15, 100m and 200m to finish 12th in each.

Ronael Faalupega surprised everybody by gaining a second placing in the under 15 javelin (39.71m), as well as a third in the shot put (11.61m). He also placed 8th in the discus (27.62m).

Josh Hill finished 7th in the under 15, 800m (2.19mins) and was part of the 4th placed 4 x 400m team.

Rueben McKeown ran well to gain an 8th placing in the under 19, 3000m (10.30mins) as well as a 10th in the 1500m (4.45mins).

 Isaac Park, while suffering with an ankle injury, still managed to run a speedy under 15, 1500m race in 5.01mins.       

Wilf Robinson ran two personal bests and earned a 5th place finish in the under 19, 800m (2.08mins) and 6th in the 1500m (4.24mins).
