Open to all students

The SVA Service Award is a nationally recognised framework, designed to formally acknowledge the volunteering of secondary school students. Anyone at school can join.

The five-level badge system celebrates the diverse acts of service that students do, within their community, whānau or school.

Students log hours in the SVA web app, building a Summary of Service to support applications for scholarships, leadership opportunities, tertiary education or employment.

At Timaru Boys’ High School we have 60 active volunteers this year and since last August we have logged 674 volunteer hours across the group.

24 students have earned their Member Service Award for achieving 5 hours of service.

14 students have earned the Bronze Service Award for achieving 32 hours of service.

And one student has been awarded the Silver Service Award for achieving 250 hours of service.

In the weekend a group of students from the SVA service group spent 2 hours doing a beach cleanup at Caroline Bay. We were supported by the Timaru District Council who supplied gloves and rubbish bags for us to use in this endeavour.
