The athletics sports were held up at the stadium on Friday the 28th of February in fine, mild conditions.
Jay Reihana with 7 individual titles while also winning the Champion of Champions sprint and anchoring Hogben (and the Prefects) to relay wins was the individual standout.
Jack Scoon and Toby Winter with new records in the 3000 metres and Triple Jump respectively also provided highlights on the day.
In the Senior grade Reihana took out the 100, 200, 400 metre, shot put, long, high and triple jump titles. Wilf Robinson was dominant over the middle distances capturing the 800,1500 and 3000 metre crowns.
Hunter Stevenson emerged as the Intermediate champion via wins in the 400 metres, High Jump, Triple Jump and Discus. George Talbot took away twin titles in the 800 and 3000 metres.
The Junior grade was where the records fell. Jack Scoon smashed the 3000 metres record by 12 seconds in stopping the clock in 9mins 43secs. He also added the 1500 metres title to his collection. Toby Winter won the 100 metres in a slick 11.7 seconds only 0.1 seconds outside the record. His 12.97 metre Triple Jump eclipsed the old mark in that event.
The Minor Grade was keenly contested. Rex Lui took away 3 titles in the Hurdles, Javelin and Long Jump. Lachlan Barnes in the 400, 800 metres and William Patterson 1500, 3000 metres both bagged doubles in their events.
The Prefects continued to (narrowly) have the wood over the staff in this year’s competition by winning the relay. As Mr D says "the staff get older each year while the prefects age remains the same"….
