13 players represented TBHS in the Aoraki Squash Tournament on the 5th June.
The 'A' grade and Festival Grade were held at the Timaru Squash club. Due to the large numbers of entries the Boys 'B' grade was held at the Temuka Squash club.
In the 'B grade our three TBHS and one mixed team competed in three pools against teams from Ashburton, Oamaru, Waimate, and Twizel. The boys played in teams of two with many results determined on total points. Notable achievements were Callum Carter and Felix Skudder winning their pool and Jack Kelly winning all of his games.
In the A grade Flynn Brookland (Yr 12) and Kees Charles (Yr 9) advanced to the final against Ashburton and in a tie - winning two games each. This meant a count back on points which they lost by three points. Well done boys a great achievement.
In the Festival grade Harry Elliotte and Daniel Poulter won their grade.
It was great to see all the players improve their skills, and gain confidence playing over the day. Equally as important was that all boys displayed the POWER values and for those new to Squash learning important skills such as how to score.
Thanks to Amanda Everett and Ella Horgan from Sport Canterbury for allowing us to enter so many teams and for organising a fantastic team event. Thanks to Graeme Howes for managing the Timaru teams and to the parents who supported our teams.
