Almost 100 international students were warmly welcomed to Timaru by the Mayor Nigel Bowen. TBHS and TGHS international students were proudly representing their respective schools and made up around 40% of the student guest list.
After the welcome Nigel Davenport from Venture Tourism encouraged students to make the most of the area, being central in the south island to mountains, sea and other activities provides many options. Guests were also entertained by some cultural and musical items such as jazz, choral and kapa haka presented by some schools. A morning tea for all was provided, giving all a valuable moment to talk and mingle.

Our second group of International Homestay Students went to Queenstown in March 2024. It was a great trip, thoroughly enjoyed by all.
On Day one we traveled via Lake Pukaki, although Aoraki Mt Cook was veiled in cloud the lake & sky were stunning as always. We then carried on and visited the Salmon farm, here we were able to view a working fish farm and feed the fish.
After some indulging in sushi and sashimi we headed off to the Clay Cliffs for a walk and to check out the wonderful landscape. In the evening after we had settled in we made our way into town for dinner, then back to camp for games and relaxing.
Day two was action packed, visiting Arrowtown and the Chinese Settlement, AJ Hacket to go on Zip Rides, even upside down for some!, before going up the Queenstown Gondola and riding on the Luge.
Day three we left Queenstown in stormy weather,
snow on the mountains and travelled home via Kurow. Photo's attached from our trip.
