Tēnā koutou.
This week has been unseasonably warm; hopefully the cooler weather coming in the next few days will bring some much needed rain. Term 3 is over and we are now preparing for Prize Givings, farewells and Senior NCEA exams. The year is hurtling to its conclusion.
Tournament Week was full of ups and downs for our different teams. Our Hockey 1st XI swept all before them in their victorious march to the Rankin Cup final with St Bedes, which they won 2-0. The whole school celebrated at a joyous assembly on their return. Winning a national title in one of the big team sports is an extremely hard thing to do. It was an amazing effort from all concerned - something to be treasured. All of our other Tournament teams played with gusto and pride (and they also had lots of fun). The Colts Rugby side played impressively, which bodes well for the future. All in all, the winter sport season was successful for all codes.
During the last day of Term 3, we held our Senior Conferencing. Parents will now have a good idea where their son is placed with academic achievement. My advice is to keep the conversation going. Ask them if they are finishing the standards they need for their NCEA Certificate. If they are doing exams at the end of the year, ask them about their revision programme. Often, young men need a bit of a nudge to get on with the task. If the teachers and parents work together on this, we can help the boys achieve to their true potential.
I hope everyone gets some good R and R during the holidays. All the best to the Cricket Club who are taking a team to Australia over the next couple of weeks. Enjoy the Cricket boys and have a great time. I look forward to hearing about some big wins over those Aussie schools. Bring on the summer and bring on Term 4!
