Bowen stars at TBHS Athletic Sports
Year 13 student Rueben Bowen was the individual star of the Timaru Boys' athletic sports held at Aorangi Stadium on February the 24th. Bowen came away with 5 individual titles in the 100 metre Sprint and Hurdle events as well as in the High Jump, Javelin and Long Jump. He was 3rd in his sixth and final event the triple jump to clearly claim the title of top Senior Athlete for the meet.
In the Intermediate division Mac Faalupega and Hunter Tarrant competed strongly against each other in the sprint races. Faalupega recorded the quickest times of the day in winning both the Intermediate and 100 metre sprint titles. Tarrant was able to turn the tables in the 200-metres. Baxter Mason was the dominant performer in the middle-distance track events sweeping the 800, 1500 and 3000 metre titles. The field events were also keenly contested with Cale Tairua the only athlete to take out multiple titles in winning the Javelin and High Jump.
In the Junior division there were a number of strong performers. Connor McKenzie took out the 200, 400 and 800 metre events while Arinze Michael was impressive in winning the 100 metres, Long and Triple jump titles. Payo O’Sullivan was dominant in the distance races taking the 1500 and 3000 metre double.
In the Minor grade Nephi Reihana-Robinson was the stand out athlete in the field events taking out the High Jump, Long Jump and Shot Put. On the track Hamish Tilsley won titles in the 1500 and 3000 metre events.
