On Thursday 10 May, the Year 10 Drama class walked to the South Canterbury Drama League Playhouse on Church Street, where Sharleyne Diamond, League Secretary, hosted the boys on a tour of the premises.
The lighting/sound room, wardrobe department, and backstage where the rehearsals happen and sets are built, were all included as part of the tour. As there was a play currently being performed during the evenings, the lighting system and stage were arranged to accommodate that performance, thereby allowing students to see where/how the props were laid out along with the lighting setup.
None of the boys had actually been into the Playhouse to watch a production before, let alone backstage, so there was much excitement and curiosity throughout this session. A number of students commented on how big the premises actually are as they look smaller from the outside. Students were also interested in perhaps assisting with future sound/lighting or backstage tasks. Thank you to the Drama league for supporting us in this visit.
