Academic Assembly

By TBHS | Posted: Monday March 8, 2021

A school highlight at the beginning of each year is the Academic Asembly, a time where our school whānau comes together to acknowledge and celebrate the success of our academic achievers and their results from the preceding year. We congratulate all of our achievers.

To attain a Certificate Endorsement in NCEA at Level 1 or 2 or 3 a student must gain 46 rather than 50 credits due to COVID-19 at Excellence and their NCEA will be endorsed with Excellence. Likewise, if a student gains 46 credits at Merit (or Merit and Excellence), their NCEA will be endorsed with Merit. It is possible to achieve these over two or more years but for our school presentation this must be achieved in the year of sitting.

SCHOLARSHIP

Scholarship provides recognition and monetary reward to top students in their last year of schooling. Scholarship examinations enable candidates to be assessed against challenging standards and are demanding for the most able candidates in each subject.

Scholarship candidates are expected to demonstrate high-level critical thinking, abstraction and generalisation, and to integrate, synthesise and apply knowledge, skills, understanding and ideas to complex situations.

Approximately three per cent of Year 13 students studying each subject at Level 3 are awarded Scholarship if they reach the standard that has been set.

In 2020 there was one Year 13 student who achieved three Scholarships. He also receives an Academic Colour for 2020.

Matthew Lang: Scholarship in Calculus, Chemistry and Physics and a Level 3 Excellence Endorsement. He received his award at last week’s assembly.
