On 27-28 of March, 32 Year 13 students from Agricultural Science and Chemistry were involved in a field trip to survey the quality of the Pareora River.
Debbie Eddington from ECAN taught the students how to assess water quality and organised many speakers to talk to the boys about their involvement with the river and farming in the area. Boys stayed overnight at Lindisfarne and listened to speakers from ECAN, DairyNZ, and Shrimpton’s farm.
Students collected data for their extended investigation assessments by sampling the water at the river for temperature, pH, nitrate and phosphate levels, water flow, invertebrates and the condition of the area surrounding the river. We were lucky to have good weather for the duration of the field trip.
