This has been a busy term for our students making decisions about their future; either those making subject choices for 2018, or seniors leaving to employment or further study.
All Year 10 students have participated in a three period Careers investigation process with Mr Poulter and this was supported and extended within their Rite Journey class. One of the tasks required the use of the Careers NZ website (www.careers.govt.nz). This is an excellent starting point for exploring interests and considering next steps. Your son should be able to share his experience and ideas from this process with you.
Tertiary institutes enrolments are open and representatives from around New Zealand have been visiting the school to help students with course planning. Halls of Residence applications are well underway, and many scholarship applications are approaching due dates. Please visit the website of your intended place of study to find out more about both. Scholarships are not just for the academically elite, there are many suitable for those with other strengths or intentions to study in specific areas.
For students returning in 2018, please pay attention to the notices for information and application dates about targeted courses such as Gateway, and Dual pathways with ARA, as these provide some very specific learning for our students. We recently had a good number of part and full time work opportunities and work experiences offered to our students. Please be brave and follow up the prompts in the notices and on our Facebook page as many of these options are full of potential.
If you wish to meet with Mr Poulter for support or guidance on your future plans please see Mrs Molyneux in the Careers front office to book a time. This service is available to students of all year levels. Check out our Facebook page, Timaru Boys' High School Careers Department for ongoing information.
