Year 10 Food Technology has risen to the occasion in their development of "digital" cakes.
Students were tasked with the challenge of developing, trialling and designing digital outcomes, outworked through making edible digital birthday cakes. Cakes were required to be food safe and incorporate electronic components.
The commitment and tenacity demonstrated by our boys was outstanding – they were thoroughly engaged in the challenge and committed themselves to early morning and lunch time trials, testing their circuits with the TinkerCad 3D CAD design tool. The finished results saw boys incorporate the use of 3D printers, fans, motors and LEDS.
Judged by Head of Technology Michael Howard, Ara Polytechnic tutor Steve Le Corre and a combined "People's Vote", the overall winners were Hadlee Begg and Levi Rhodes with their movie projector setup, followed by second placegetters Rueben Tarawa-Te Whata, Will Urquhart and Thomas Kyle with their burning house.
Well done to all students on tackling such a novel task and for showing real innovation.
