In the week beginning 18 April, Riley Taylor (Year 11) and Jack Sands (Year 10) attended the New Zealand Age Group Swimming Championships in Wellington.
Both boys performed exceedingly well, and have been named in the Canterbury Gold and Silver Training Squads respectively.
Nine out of ten of Riley Taylor’s events saw him finish in the top 15 in New Zealand. He gained a finals placing in the 400 Free where he placed 3rd in an Opens time. Other outstanding swims were in the 1500 freestyle where Riley placed 4th, the 200 backstroke final where he gained 9th , his two regional relay swims where in the 15 and Under 400 free his team finished a commendable 7th and in the 15 and Under 400 Individual Medley relay where his team finished 9th.
Jack also had an impressive meet. In his 8 events he finished in the top 12 in 7 of them. He gained entry into 5 finals. Jack’s most successful result was a 4th in New Zealand in the 200 backstroke. He also achieved two 7th placing in the 200 Individual Medley final, and the 400 Freestyle final, continuing on to gain two 8th placings in 50 backstroke final and the 100 backstroke final.

Jack Sands: 50 Butterfly 25th, 50 Backstroke 8th, 100 Backstroke 8th, 100 Freestyle 12th, 200 Freestyle 9th, 200 Individual Medley 7th, 200 Backstroke 4th, and the 400 Freestyle 7th.
