Timaru Boys' High School Choir had the privilege of performing at a Citizenship Ceremony on Teusday 10 August.
Citizenship ceremonies are hosted at the Timaru District Council offices, prior to a Council meeting.approximately five times a year.
The Department of Internal Affairs sends out invitations to the candidates to attend a citizenship ceremony to which they are invited to bring along family and friends to mark the occasion.
The citizenship ceremony sees candidates read the oath or affirmation of allegiance. They then receive a certificate of citizenship from the Mayor of Timaru District and a small gift from the Council. Until they receive the certificates personally, caandidates are unable to call themselves a NZ citizen, even if approval has been received from the Department of Internal Affairs as to their suitability.
TBHS appreciates being given the opportunity of sharing in special occasions such as this - a great time to celebrate!
Thank you to Megan Holden for working with our choir - your support is much appreciated.
