The Timaru Boys’ Tennis team easily disposed of their Waitaki opponents in the annual summer exchange held in Oamaru. They won 9 matches to nil, losing only a third of their games. Golf croquet and bowls also had wins with the 1st XI cricket the only team to lose.
Hayden McNulty led the Tennis team well with James Watt as dominant as ever. This combined with Tim Sheed and George McAleer using their recent South Island Tennis Champs experience allowed the team to completely dominate their opponents. New players Caleb Cameron and Connor Crotty brought enthusiasm to the team and showed that there is good depth in Timaru Boys’ High School tennis.
The Lawn Bowls team of Tom
Tairoa, Cameron and David Ellis, and young Jack
Aicken showed plenty of skill in beating their Oamaru opponents. Tom is
a very skilled out door bowls player while Cameron and David won the National
Secondary Schools’ Indoor Bowls Championship last year. With Jack being a very
talented young bowler, this is another sport that has much potential to
continue to achieve at a high level. The team controlled the rink to take out a
6-1 win.
Jack Greenlaw and Jason Hodgett used all their experience to help guide their younger team mates Matthew Gualter and Jack Lister to a comprehensive victory over Waitaki in the Golf Croquet. The team won 7-1 with the only loss being the TBHS second team against the Waitaki top team in the doubles. Again this is a team that has a lot of depth and could go well over the next couple of years.
The 1st XI Cricket team struggled, batting first on a green wicket. Shaun Rooney top scored with Mark Otley also contributing some valuable runs. The team fought their way through to 138. This was not an easily defendable score with Waitaki making the target with only 5 wickets down, Mark Otley taking 2 of the wickets to fall.
Overall, a 3-1 win to Timaru Boys’ High School.
