As we work toward the redevelopment of Thomas House Boarding Hostel, our committee of Virginia Callaghan, Warren Leslie, Karla Yeatman, Susan Coker, Hamish Sheed, Vicki Rollinson, Sue McNulty and Colin Murdoch have been holding regular meetings throughout the year.
The building concept
is designed so it can be built in three stages. We are initially aiming to
build stage one and two plus the Housemasters’ unit included in stage three.
There is still some discussion on whether the common room is necessary, as
there may be other options to cover this building in the meantime such as using
the cricket pavilion.
We have set a target date to have construction completed by the start of the 2018 school year.
The committee have been looking at various funding options, and will be going out to Old Boys and the community offering naming rights for different units and the entire wing. There will also be options to buy bricks/tiles.
We are currently in the process of collating information to submit an application to the Ministry of Education to proceed with the development. This includes getting permission to demolish the old buildings, build the new one and borrow above the limitations set down by the Ministry. Solutions and Services Ltd are helping us with this. They are confident that we can achieve our objectives with this project.
