Seven records broken at the 2018 Timaru Boys' Swimming Sports

In an outstanding display, Jack Sands and Riley Taylor erased a combined total of 7 records from the history books at the TBHS swimming sports, which were held in ideal conditions at the school pool on 15 February.

Sands, a Year 12 student, set new marks in the 50 metre freestyle, backstroke, butterfly and breast-stroke events, while Taylor, a Year 13 student, lowered the times for the 100, 200 and 1500 metre freestyle events. This saw Sands narrowly head Taylor as the senior swimming champion. The race of the day was undoubtedly the 100 metre freestyle event where they went stroke for stroke for all 3 laps and Taylor edged Sands by the narrowest of margins in a time of 56.9 seconds, well under the previous record of 57.8 seconds set by Taylor last year. Sands and Taylor will be looking to continue their good form into the National Championships in April.

In the junior section William Tudgey was champion and Dominic Coleman was runner up.

Dawson House, ably led by Sands, won the Inter-house competition that was quietly, tactfully, and impartially compered by Deputy Rector Rod Sparrow.

Overall Results:

Senior Champion - Jack Sands
Senior Runner-up - Riley Taylor

Junior Champion - William Tudgey
Junior Runner-up - Dominic Coleman

Best House Overall - Dawson
