New Zealand Open Championships 2018

This year Timaru Boys’ was lucky enough to have swimmers of such a calibre that they were able to attend the New Zealand Opens, enabling them to swim against older and more experienced swimmers.

Riley Taylor and Jack Sands, swimming for their clubs (Swim Timaru and Geraldine respectively), both produced some amazing swims.

Riley had an outstanding swim in the 1500 metre Freestyle to gain a bronze medal, taking 3.44 seconds off his previous personal best.

Jack gained an impressive 4th in the 400 Individual Medley also swimming in a personal best time.

In addition to these swims, both boys continually swam well to record the following results:

  • Riley: 5th in the 400 Freestyle (PB), 12th in the 200 Freestyle, and 15th in the 200 Backstroke having gained a finals place in each one of these races. He also swam the 200 Individual medley (PB) and the 100 Freestyle.
  • Jack: 6th in the 800 Freestyle taking an amazing 11.64 seconds off his personal best, 7th in the 1500 freestyle (PB), 11th in the 400 Freestyle and 14th in the 200 Individual Medley having gained a finals place in each of these events.
