Quigley claims Eight Titles at TBHS Athletic Sports

Year 10 student Bill Quigley claimed a possibly unprecedented eight individual titles at the Timaru Boys’ High School Athletics Sports held on Tuesday the 23rd of February in good conditions at Aorangi Stadium.

Quigley was totally dominant in the Minor grade taking out the 100, 200, 400 metres and 80 metre Hurdles events on the track. He also added a quartet of field titles in the discus, shot-put, long-jump and javelin.

The Junior division titles were more evenly spread with Baxter Mason (800,1500 and 3000 metres) dominating the distance events. Mac Faalupega (100/200 metres), Cale Tompkins (high jump/javelin) and Tom Geary (400 metres/hurdles) all took home two titles apiece.

Saxon McNoe was the dominant athlete in the Intermediate division claiming the 400/800 Metre double on the track as well as titles in the discus, triple jump and high jump.

In the Senior Grade, the sprinting of Joeli Vinakadina was a real highlight as he took out the Senior 100 metres in 11.4 seconds and the 200 metre title as well as the Champion of Champions race in a slick time of 11.3 seconds. An injury to Jed Syme robbed the meet of an intriguing match up on the track. Vinakadina also took out the Senior long jump title. In the distance events, Charlie Clemens took the 800, 1500 and 3000 metre titles.

Dawson was the winning House overall.
