The Football season is coming to a close with a number of teams still in knock out Cup Competitions and the 1st XI travelling to National Tournament in Tauranga this week.

The 1st X1 achieved their key goal of qualifying for the National Premier Schools Tournament and played an attractive brand of Football which has been talked about by a number of coaches and teams at the after match events.

This season has seen the development and introduction of eight new players to the 1st X1 with a highlight being Jack Deeley and Max Pierce achieving over 100 appearances at the school’s highest level. This is an achievement rarely seen in the school.

The overall strategy of individual player improvement has largely been achieved, with five players being nominated to represent South Canterbury Adult Representative teams later in September.

Congratulations to both the 18th Grade Harriers and the 16th Grade Ospreys who finished their league seasons by winning their individual competitions.

The 18th Grade Harriers completed one of the closest and exciting league competitions of the last few years by winning the 18th Grade. The competition came down to the final game of the season where the Harriers beat a dogged Roncalli team 2-1 to clinch the championship. It has been an excellent season for the boys who showed great character and determination throughout.

The 18th Grade Falcons had a difficult season playing against numerous 1st XI teams from High Schools in the district. The team fought well throughout the season and showed excellent determination and spirit in each game.

The 18th Grade Eagles showed glimpses of their potential during the season, pushing the top teams in a number of games; unfortunately a lack of consistency and numbers had a large influence on their final position in the league.

The 16th Grade Ospreys finished their season losing only one game and convincingly winning the 16th Grade Division. The team gelled very well together and played a striking brand of football.

The 16th Grade Vultures made excellent progress and showed a lot of heart throughout the season with some very spirited games in what proved to be a difficult league of only four teams.

The 14th Grade Eagles had a mixed season with some great progress and excellent results in the latter half, culminating in a great 3-1 win over Geraldine/Waihi.

It has been good to see the numerous boys involved both in playing and coaching football this year.

A big thank you to the coaches, managers, boys and their parents who put countless hours in training, going to games and supporting their boys from the side-line. It has been excellent to see the boys reflecting the school-wide POWER values over the season.
