The event returned to Blenheim again this year, with heats and finals taking place on Saturday 7 July.
Only two swimmers from our swim team were available for this competition - Reed Stevenson and Dominic Coleman - but both represented the school well. All 50 metre and 100 metre races had heats and were split into two age groups (14 and under, and 15 and over), with those races over 200 metres being straight timed finals and open in terms of age. Therefore the boys were in separate age divisions for the shorter races.
Reed was seeded second in the 200 Individual Medley, but in an extremely close race, just touched ahead to win gold in this race.

Reed, seeded third in the 100 breaststroke, qualified for the afternoon final in second place and maintained that position in the final race. He swam a personal best in gaining the silver. Dominic also swam a personal best, and having qualified third, finished third in the final.
Swimming the 50 Butterfly, Reed was just overtaken in the last stretch to finish second, while Dominic came fourth. In the next race, the 100 Freestyle, Dominic swam a personal best in his heat to qualify in first place, and then bettered that time in the final, however, it was not quite enough to gain first place, but he finished in a strong second place.
The 200 butterfly is an endurance race, and it was very close for the whole race with Reed just missing the gold by 0.15. In the 200 Breaststroke, Reed finished third with Dominic sixth, and in the 200 Freestyle Reed came fourth and Dominic again finishing sixth.
The 400 Individual Medley is an exhausting race, and the two swimmers were very tired by this stage of the meet. Reed gained a third place and Dominic fourth. Overall, this was an extremely successful meet.
