The first four days of the holidays saw the National School Road Biking Championships held on Christchurch’s country roads.
Racing in fields of 80 riders per age group, our seven riders all jostled for position in a peloton on a single lane of road results in aggressive and dangerous racing.
Unfortunately, a major crash the week before with one of our team members left us short for the Team Time Trial but we entered the road races in Rangiora and points race around Ruapuna Race track.
Ollie Smith came home with a well-deserved 3rd in the U16 grade, supported well by team-mate Thomas Allan. U19 riders Sam Ritchie, Cathal Guiney and Kallum Puttick all performed well.
