While gathering data for a number of NCEA Internal and External Assessment Standards, students were also given the opportunity of experiencing some of the excitement of the original miners with activities such as gold panning.
Kurtis Doudle, however, was the only student to find a small gold particle!
The aim of the trip was to introduce the boys to the use of archaeological, archival and field study source material in historical research. The group were accompanied by Dr Harland, Mr Smith and Mr Wulff (Mountainview). The itinerary comprised of visits to Bendigo, the Kawerau Gold Mining Centre, Cromwell, Arrowtown Library, the Lake District Museum, Queenstown, Naseby and St Bathans.
