TBHS student, Robert Chapman, spoke in assembly about how his experience with the YES programme has encouraged him to join the Pleasant Point Fire Service as a volunteer.
The YES programme is a 10-week course that runs between late April to the end of June. It has hands-on involvement in practice scenarios with the Red Cross, Land Sar, St John, and Fire and Emergency New Zealand. This is a course offered to two pupils between the ages of 16 to 19 from each secondary school in South Canterbury.
The course is split into three phases: 2 weeks with each organisation, hands-on experience with a chosen organisation, followed by graduation at the end of the course which involves a scenario day with all the organisations involved
If you are keen then please see Mr Poulter in the Careers room for more info and an application form.
