On Thursday 10 May, the New Zealand Playhouse performed Shakespeare: As You Write It to 120 of our students.
The performance commenced with three actors asking the students for ideas they could work with and improvise e.g. movie characters, a place in the world, and appearance. Many ideas were forthcoming but in the end the following suggestions were followed: Rome, Strong Bod and Shrek.
The actors then performed many snippets from the Shakespeare stories Romeo and Juliet and a Midsummer Night’s Dream, acting out the succession of kings and how they died using the suggested cues, thereby making the whole performance very entertaining and interactive.
They were extremely clever in their use of minimal props and portrayed each character by adding a wig, a sword, crown, piece of material etc.
