The TBHS 1st XI Hockey team travelled to Wellington for the Rankin Cup/India Shield combined tournament this year.

TBHS were the defending champions of the India Shield and despite being in the middle of a team rebuild, continued to have high hopes for the tournament.

After the first round of pool play the team were placed in the category to compete for the India Shield which is made up of the teams placed 17th-32nd. Despite some tough games and some excellent play from the TBHS team, they were knocked out of the Shield play-off and faced Napier Boys’ High School in the bronze medal match. It was a close game but TBHS came out on top with a 4-3 win. The boys all had a great tournament and there were a number who could have easily picked up the most valuable player title for the team, but this year it went to Jon Mechtold who has been a huge asset to the team in the latter part of the season. Congratulations to the boys on their Bronze medal!
