Over the weekend of 1 – 4 April, eight boys from Timaru Boys’ High School visited Auckland with their Drama teacher to attend performances at the Pop-up Globe.
Over the course of the weekend the boys experienced a variety of
performances, including an all-male cast of Twelfth
Night, a post-modern Romeo and Juliet,
a recent acting graduates’ performance of Antony
and Cleopatra and a musical extravaganza.
The boys also attended NZ Opera’s Open Day, a rehearsal at Te Pou Theatre and had coffee with industry professionals. “The sheer number of opportunities offered to us in a short amount of time made this a very rewarding experience” says Ryan Davis.
The boys’ now have time to reflect on their experiences before using what they learned in their Drama work. Their Drama teacher is hoping that the powerful performances will stay with them, informing their work this year and beyond.
