The Arts Department has been very busy recently.

ARTARAMA 2015

Sponsored by Timaru North Rotary Club in conjunction with the Aigantighe Art Gallery and established in 1979, the Artarama Competition is open to students of local schools. This year saw Timaru Boys’ submit ten entries across three year groups and in two categories: Drawing and Painting and Print and Collage. Congratulations to the following students:

Year 13 Painting and Drawing ($150 prize): Thomas Clarke 13MN

Years 9 & 10 Painting and Drawing ($80 prize): Sam Richie 9RT

DRAMA

  • Congratulations to Tony Bunting, Ryan Davis and Eleazar Coronado for their wonderful performances in the South Canterbury Drama League production of Evita.
  • Special thanks to Alpine Energy for the generous donation of 40 tickets to the Evita Production on Wednesday night – the boys have appreciated the opportunity of attending this show
  • There is much activity planned on the horizon in the Drama Department! The Drama Technology students are hard at work creating various properties and costumes for next year's production The Lion King Jr. The scene shop room is a complete whirlwind of a mess, but the productivity is outstanding!
  • The juniors are hard at work, with the Year 9s commencing units on voice, body, movement, and space; and how these elements are used for dramatic effect. The Year 10s have begun scripting their Commedia dell'Arte plays, where we are having lots of fun learning about comedic timing and double entendre.
  • The seniors have been hard at work over the past few weeks preparing for their performance assessments. What is unique about these assessments is that they are to be in front of a live audience. You are all invited to come out and see TBHS Studio Cabaret!  Over the evenings of 28-29 October, commencing at 7:00pm, the seniors will perform a series of plays. There will be a Series A performance, and a Series B performance, so come out both nights to see the polished work of the Drama Department's senior students! More information is to come, so stay tuned!
