Languages

At Timaru Boys’ High School students are able to choose a language option at Yr 9 which they can carry through to Yr 13 (NCEA L3). The language programmes include Te Reo Māori and French.

Communication, language knowledge and cultural knowledge are areas of focus in these programmes and opportunities for language camps, noho marae, speech competitions, cultural feasts, cultural cooking and a senior French exchange are available for the boys to take part in. Through these learning experiences students skills are improved and their socio-cultural understanding is enhanced.

We believe that career prospects are improved for students who show proficiency in a second language especially in tourism, education, national and international law, commerce, science and sport.
